Dr. Lara Shekerdemian is a globally recognized leader in pediatric healthcare with more than 25 years of experience across three continents. She serves as Pediatrician-in-Chief at Texas Children’s Hospital and Chair of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine, leading the nation’s largest academic pediatrics department—approximately 1,300 faculty and medical staff dedicated to excellence in patient care, research, and education.
A pediatric intensivist and physician-scientist, she previously led pediatrics critical care services for over a decade, expanding subspecialty intensive care programs and advancing care for children with complex heart disease. She has authored more than 160 peer-reviewed publications and remains deeply committed to developing the next generation of pediatric clinicians and scientists.
At the heart of her work is a belief that medicine is both a science and a human calling—that caring for children requires not only technical excellence, but humility, teamwork, and a profound respect for the trust families place in those who serve them.
