Get to know Justin P. Zachariah, MD, MPH
Dr. Justin Zachariah is an Associate Professor of Pediatric Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine and is Texas Children’s Hospital Heart Center Co-Chair of Research Operations and Director of Research for the Pediatric Cardiology Division.
Dr. Zachariah is an NIH (National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute) R01 funded physician-scientist in prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) by addressing cholesterol, blood pressure and vascular medicine risk in children. He was privileged to be the first Pediatric Cardiology trained research fellow in a unique collaboration between Framingham Heart Study and Boston Children’s Hospital, where he was trained in biophysical and biochemical marker assessment and analysis including circulating biomarkers of ASCVD, analysis of arterial stiffness and ASCVD epidemiology.
He leveraged these experiences and a master’s in public health from Harvard School of Public Health to publish manuscripts about primordial and primary ASCVD prevention with tools ranging from epidemiology, cost effectiveness, noninvasive vascular testing, clinical patient outcomes, translational work in biochemical and biophysical biomarkers, and ‘-omic’ platforms. Multiple other published projects also establish his expertise in genetic epidemiology in Mendelian randomization, arterial stiffness analysis, circulating biomarker analysis, pediatric dyslipidemia and hypertension, including precision medicine-guided interventional clinical trials.
