Personal Statement

I want to provide cutting edge, evidence-based, clinical care. I am driven by understanding the “why” for any clinical case that presents to the Family Fertility Center. That is, research and a desire for patient and peer education are rigorously interwoven in my every-day practice.

Fertility is only the tip if the iceberg of what we do: we are here to treat the whole spectrum of underlying endocrine conditions that may affect our patients. Many times, we just have to fine-tune endocrine functions to cure the patient’s symptoms, including infertility. We are blessed with state-of-the-art embryology and andrology labs that help in the most difficult cases.

Clinical Interests

I am fascinated by the multiple causes of decreased ovarian reserve and primary ovarian insufficiency, specifically the ones derived by chemotherapy (for cancer treatment, but also to treat hematologic or autoimmune conditions), genetic conditions (fragile X, Turner’s syndrome), or by common pathological processes such as endometriosis and chronic pelvic inflammation (i.e.: from Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, etc.).

We strive to provide comprehensive care for Polycystic ovary syndrome, Mullerian anomalies (uterine septum), genetic and congenital conditions that preclude fertility, and we use ultrasound imaging to provide the best clinical approach.

The uterine transplant program started by Dr. Belfort has added a major, novel, clinical interest which promises to become a mainstay of the Family Fertility Center.

My plans include further development of the IVF program and Family Fertility Center and ongoing expansion of The Woodlands clinic. “I’d also like for this division to become a national hub for fertility preservation in the pediatric population, helping patients who may not be able to have biological children when they grow up,” “With our research and the relationship between Baylor and Texas Children’s, we are uniquely positioned to achieve that.” Also, to become a center of reference for difficult REI cases, advancing the understanding and treatment of complex reproductive disorders.
