About this Event

Texas Children's Hospital invites athletic type 1 diabetic adolescents (>11 years) and their parents to develop a successful sport-specific management plan. Our headlining speaker, Brandon Green, former NFL and Rice University football player, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at ten years old and now serves as an advocate and mentor for T1D teen athletes. He will share how critical a well-designed plan can be for performance and safety. Sarah Dobkins, pediatric sports dietitian, will be speaking about key nutrition strategies at all stages of the game for all types of activity (aerobic vs. anaerobic). Anne Imber, Co-Founder of Type 1 To Go, will be talking to parents about 504 Plans, clarifying parent and school roles during extracurricular activities, and the importance of supply planning. Using their sideline experience and expertise, our physical therapists will help families identify the key stakeholders and important details (who, what, when) that need to be included in the game day plan. We have some great activities planned to get our adolescents moving, having fun, and applying their knowledge! Get prepared, get supplied, and get ready for a winning season.
