Get to know Priya Mahajan, MD
Dr. Priya Mahajan is the Associate Director of the Solid Tumor Programs, Director of the Thyroid Cancer Program and Associate Director of the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program at Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Center. She is an associate professor of pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine and is a board-certified pediatric hematologist-oncologist who is nationally and internationally recognized for her expertise in the care of children with solid tumors and vascular anomalies. Dr. Mahajan has a specific interest and expertise in rare tumors, thyroid cancer, and germ cell tumors. She serves as a stratum leader for an international Children’s Oncology Group (COG) phase 3 clinical trial for germ cell tumors, and established a multi-institutional pediatric thyroid cancer database to review clinical practices and outcomes data in a collaborative effort to improve patient care nationally.
Dr. Mahajan completed her undergraduate education at the University of California, Berkeley and her medical education at Tulane University School of Medicine. She obtained a Masters in Pharmacology from Tulane University. She completed her pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital of Orange County and her fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center where her research focused on solid tumors, particularly rhabdomyosarcoma. After completing her fellowship, Dr. Mahajan joined Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital in 2014.
Dr. Mahajan currently serves as Young Investigator Committee Co-Chair for the Malignant Germ Cell International Consortium. She is a member of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) Germ Cell Tumor Committee and the Infrequent Tumor Committee. She is an active member of the American Thyroid Association Guidelines and Statements Committee. She was selected to serve on the American Board of Pediatrics Hematology/Oncology Subboard, whereby she develops evidence-based medicine board examination questions.
She frequently facilitates courses for medical students at Baylor College of Medicine and has a strong interest in education.
