About

Melissa Gonzalez is a certified pediatric nurse practitioner specialized in acute care. She is a member of the leukemia team at Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Center where she cares for patients and families through their diagnosis and treatment of leukemia.

She is honored to work with patients and families who are navigating a complex healthcare system and diagnosis. She believes it is imperative to provide them with the latest evidence-based treatment and the education needed to give them the best possible outcome.

Ms. Gonzalez's nursing career began in the Texas Children’s Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit for ten years before transitioning to the Cancer and Hematology Center Outpatient Clinic where she practiced as a nurse for six years. As an outpatient staff nurse in the Cancer and Hematology Center, she administered chemotherapy and biotherapies, administered moderate sedation for procedures and cared for complex acutely ill children in the Urgent Care Bay (UCB).

Upon becoming a board certified pediatric nurse practitioner, she accepted a position with Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Texas Children’s Hospital where she managed complex patients with chronic illnesses in a multi-disciplinary approach.

She obtained her masters in nursing from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center during which time she was inducted into the academic national honor society, Phi Kappa Phi, and the international honor society of nursing, Sigma Theta Tau. Prior to obtaining her masters, she received a bachelors of science in nursing from Baylor University. She is board certified by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) as a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Acute Care (CPNP-AC).
