Personal Statement
Dr. Leaming-Van Zandt serves as the Medical Director of the Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) West Campus Emergency Center. Her academic interests include relationship-centered communication, patient/family education, and medical journalism. She has led a variety of multi-disciplinary committees and quality improvement projects designed to champion and promote a service quality environment and culture to improve the emergency center experience for all patients and their families.
Additionally, she has served on the Texas Children’s Breakthrough Communication steering committee and helped facilitate and train Texas Children’s Hospital physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and team members in relationship-centered communication.
Dr. Leaming-Van Zandt has published peer-reviewed articles and chapters on interpersonal, triadic (clinician-patient-caregiver) communication and authored/contributed to numerous articles, blogs, and interviews for the TCH Blog (http://www.texaschildrensblog.org), Baylor College of Medicine Momentum Blog (https://blogs.bcm.edu/topics/momentum/), and other medical journalism sources/outlets. She additionally oversees the division’s pediatric emergency medicine social media accounts, @TxChildrensPEM and @bcm_pemfellow
