Dr. Jeffrey Shilt has held multiple leadership roles in both academic and community based practices. He previously served as the residency program director for the Wake Forest University Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program. While at Wake Forest, he participated in pioneering work in the treatment of children with spastic cerebral palsy, as well as work in tissue engineering as it applies in the field of sports medicine. Dr. Shilt served as team physician for USA triathlon at two world championships and for a professional cycling team. Dr. Shilt remains clinically active in sports medicine, serving as medical consultant for multiple World Champions, Olympians, and multiple professional endurance athletes. This experience with elite athletes is coupled with the experience treating individuals with severe gait impairments such as those found in cerebral palsy, demonstrating a thorough knowledge across the biomechanical spectrum. He has published over 40 articles and authored 7 book chapters. His research interests include management of spasticity in cerebral palsy, sports performance and the treatment of endurance sports injuries. He has presented numerous lectures, both nationally and internationally.
