My clinical interest circles around the support of the failing heart (mechanical or pharmocological). We pursue determining the impact of clinical interventions in patients with cardiomyopathy, congenital heart disease and cardiovascular disease requiring intensive care. We work in conjunction with the Quality Improvement office at Texas Children's querying large administrative databases to evaluate the outcome of medical or surgical interventions.
I am also interested in developing innovative methods for teaching pediatricians who are training to become cardiologists. We utilize simulation-based experiences to reproduce rare events that require precision and deliberate actions from trainees. This spans from communication of bad news to management of patients in extracorporeal life support (ECMO).
