For young athletes, a concussion is a potentially serious injury in which the brain does not function normally following a blow to the head and can lead to learning problems, behavior problems, and in rare instances, death. The Sports Concussion Program at Texas Children’s Hospital assesses and treats concussions using the latest medical guidelines and treatments, with emphasis on guiding your athlete safely back to his sport.
Returning to Play
Below are concussion return-to-play protocols for a number of sports-related activities. Please remember that if you develop symptoms, NOTIFY YOUR COACH OR TRAINER IMMEDIATELY.
Note: These return to play protocols are patterned after the generic return to play protocol proposed by the 4th International Conference on Concussion(1), and may differ from the UIL recommended protocol.
