Level 1 Children’s Surgery Center
In 2016, Texas Children’s Hospital was verified as an inaugural Level 1 Children’s Surgery Center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS). We were among the first children’s hospital nationally to earn this verification.
This recognition is particularly significant because of the process that is used to assess our programs. In 2016, the ACS determined that we have the resources and infrastructure to ensure the best surgical care for pediatric patients as determined by rigorous ACS standards.
Level 1 signifies our medical staff are all trained and experienced to take care of pediatric patients, from premature babies to teenagers, and support their families. Earning Level 1 status means we offer families the highest level of NICU care, a pediatric trained emergency department and pediatric radiology, paired with the most robust data collection, outcomes assessment and quality improvement efforts.
We have seen tremendous growth in our performance improvement and patient safety (PIPS) since our verification in 2016. We are honored to be among the first Children’s Hospital to be verified.
About: The American College of Surgeons (ACS), in collaboration with the Task Force for Children’s Surgical Care, developed standards to improve surgical care for children surgical patients. These standards have led the development of the Children’s Surgery Verification Program and are the nation’s first and only multispecialty standards for children’s surgical care.
Mission: To improve the quality of children’s surgical care by creating a system that allows for a prospective match of every child’s individual surgical needs with a care environment that has optimal pediatric resources.
