The entire line of redi-stick trainers Michael has developed are absolutely phenomenal. Each trainer serves a unique purpose and offers as close to hands on learning experience as you get (for both new healthcare workers and those who just may need a refresher or to learn a new technique).
The CVC trainers are PERFECT for teaching and practicing sterile technique. They offer the opportunity to learn how to do a sterile cap and dressing change hands on with a realistic device. The dressing sticks to the skin on the CVC trainers more realistically than any other avenue we have investigated before. They are also more beneficial because they can be worn- so trainees can get the realistic feeling of having to navigate around limbs while maintaining a sterile field. We are also able to use these trainers to demonstrate how to properly draw labs and more importantly how to draw blood cultures correctly without causing contamination. These are amazing tools that allow new staff members to establish confidence in critical skills prior to having to perform them in a high pressure environment with a patient and parent watching. This also increases safety for our patients.
The port a cath trainer is so wonderful. I WISH we had one when I first started. The ability to change the depth and size of the PAC is invaluable. I will never forget a patient’s mom refusing to allow me to try and access her daughter’s PAC as a new grad because she said it was small and only VAT/experienced nurses could do it. If we had this PAC trainer back then- I would have had the opportunity to practice on the trainer and I could have honestly said I had done it before! The reality is that the steps of accessing a PAC are the same, but it feels different every time you do it depending on the patient. The PAC trainer allows you to simulate those differences by having different size PAC and different depths at which it sits under the “skin.” And there is nothing more satisfying than pulling back on that syringe and seeing actual blood return and knowing that you hit it just right!!
The PIV trainers feel very realistic and I again would have loved to get my hands on them when I first started nursing. As a new grad trying to hit the vein is nerve wrecking especially in pediatrics. However, the steps of appropriately securing the dressing (and preventing hospital acquired conditions like PIV infiltrates and pressure injuries) can also be overwhelming. The PIV trainers allow you to practice hitting the vein- getting flash- and properly advancing the catheter and removing the stylet.
Michael has created a much needed set of tools for healthcare providers to work on and I enjoy using them. Any healthcare worker would be lucky to have these to learn on!

I wanted you to know we finally received our PIV trainer kits and to thank you again.
They have made a difference in the PIV skills of the nursing staff. There’s nothing better than seeing smiles with the flash of “blood” return. J

18yo, Female used RediStik Port Trainer during inpatient hospital stay and is now able to access her own port at home. Due to multiple ongoing illness, dysautonomia, migraines, and gastroparesis over several years and the need for weekly infusions, this female has difficult peripheral venous access. She now has an implanted port and is now able to get infusions at home with Mom accessing her port. During her last hospital admission, I had to access her port, her and mom were talking about how she would like to be able to access her own port at home. I came up with a plan to teach her how to access a port using the RediStik port trainer. We went over several scenarios and she was successful and felt confident with accessing a port. Weeks went by and I ran into her and mom in the hospital during a clinic visit. I am happy to say that she is now successfully accessing her own port at home now. This was all made possible due to the simulations with the realistic skin and haptic feedback of the port trainer.

We used the PIV and the PORT trainer during those sessions and everyone really liked them and appreciated the hands-on practice! They provide a great way to get hands-on practice as close to real life as possible! Our staff continued to talk about the trainers long after the training sessions because they enjoyed using them so much. The ability to move the port placement around to increase the difficulty of access as well as the ability to get blood return made it so much more realistic, and therefore more beneficial!
Using the CVL trainer to film the training video for cap change and dressing change was also very helpful because it was more realistic than just a mannequin skin, which is what we’ve used historically. It not only helped us as the trainers make the video run more smoothly but I think it’s also very beneficial to the learners because the more realistic the process looks, the easier it is for them to understand it and learn from it.

The RediStik PIV Trainers have been used in three countries in Sub-Saharan Africa at the Texas Children’s Hospital Global Hematology-Oncology Pediatric Centers of Excellence. The PIV trainers have been instrumental in teaching nurses caring for children with cancer how to properly insert peripheral intravenous catheters that are used to administer chemotherapy. Competencies learned on the PIV trainers have decreased extravasation rates from 42% to 5% in less than a year’s time; these trainers are making a true difference in the lives of children we care for.
All nurses completing the training found the RediStik PIV task trainer and videos extremely helpful and improved their PIV insertion skills.

RediStik Port Trainer
I have utilized the port trainers for multiple advanced training classes, new skills training and check off classes, refresher skills practice, and just in time training when ports arrived in unexpected departments. The simulation it provides is very realistic with options to demonstrate real variation that can be encountered. It really helps to decrease anxiety and increase confidence around the skill, in those clinicians that have used the port trainers.
RediStik PIV Trainer
The PIV trainer gives the learner the ability to simulate more than just the needle insertion but also holding and positioning tips as it can be attached to an extremity. The skin closely correlates to the same glide of an actual PIV insertion so that the learner can get a realistic feel for the procedure.
RediStik CVC Trainer
The CVC trainer is a much needed tool for multiple educational needs. It can be utilized when training clinicians new to PICC or CVC insertion, central line dressing change education, and sterile cap change or tubing change simulation. It can also be used to show to a patient that needs a central line in an effort to increase their awareness about the device and decrease any anxiety about the needed device.

Everyone I was able to get to the other day loved it and it was way harder than they expected (which is a good thing)!

We included the IV skills station using the Redistik PIV Trainer in the PEARS learning survey and I just finished looking at the results. I wanted to share with you.
There was a 40% increase in the confidence scores!!!! This is so great!!!
Thank you for your passion and support for these new nurses. These results speak volumes to the positive reinforcement they received during this skills station. Tori and I appreciate your time & effort and hope you will join us again for the October cohort.

Had some great feedback on the RediStik PIV trainer and the RediStik PAC trainer! We had about 65 nurses go through our critical comps and use both the trainers. Most had commented that they enjoyed the skills station. The trainers held up well. Each person had attempted at least 2-4 times. Easy to set up and easy to clean up and the RN’s reaction was priceless when they saw the flashback with our fake blood. We would definitely use them again. Thanks again for hooking us up!

Just wanted to give you some feedback on the Redistik IV trainer. The Float RN watched the video and practiced on the arm and found it to be extremely helpful. He was even successful on a patient following his training on the trainer. Thank you so much.
- Sherry Grant, BSN, RN
I have been using the IV trainers for our hemophilia self-infusion class. The kit is amazing, and the kids/families really like how real they are and feel. Thanks!
- Aleida Stark, RN, BSN
I had a chance to use the IV trainer for my staff this past week. Everyone loved it! It was very realistic in regards to palpating veins, the feel of inserting the IV catheter, and threading. The staff also enjoyed the fact that it provided a flash once inside the vein and they could even practice filling a lab tube. We found it very engaging and it really enhanced the learning experience.

Check out this awesome testimonial about the Redistik Microsurgery Trainer from Andrea Tonelli BMedSciHons, a medical student in South Africa doing research in the Cardiac Surgery Lab in University of Cape Town & Grooteschuur Hospital.
Andrea via email:
I finally got the opportunity to spend some time (+50 hours) with the kit over the last month.
It has been a fantastic experience and I have seen a massive improvement in my anastomosis time.
Using the kit for approximately 50 hours, I improved my anastomosis time on the smallest diameter vessel (1.5 mm) using 8-0 Prolene sutures under the microscope with 9 sutures placed on each end of the graft, from 1 hour and 32 minutes down to a mean of just 23 minutes.
The Redistik® microsurgery trainer has been a game changer!
