From Stress to Strength

A Program for Parents of Children with Disabilities

From Stress to Strength is a two-part program for parents of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The program offers simple techniques that lower stress, depression and anxiety.

Programs like these can be enormously helpful to families transitioning from feeling overwhelmed and alone to embracing their child’s and family’s strengths. The program currently consists of two, 4-hour workshops that focus on teaching parents to use their character strengths in new ways, and provides exercises to help them involve gratitude, forgiveness and optimism in their daily role as caregivers.

Doctors, nurses and graduate students from Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital will use a curriculum developed at the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center. The program will be held in English and Spanish.
