We know that bringing your child to the doctor is a big event, so in order to make it as easy as possible, here is what you can expect during your visit.
Arriving for Your Visit
Please arrive 15 minutes early to your appointment to accommodate time for parking and registration. If you are late to your scheduled appointment time, your appointment may have to be rescheduled.
If it is your child's first appointment, bring as many of the following items as possible to the appointment, if available:
- Medical records (including labs) of the patient
- Any x-rays and/or scans that have been obtained (preferably on a CD if available)
- Proof of insurance
The initial GI evaluation may take one or two visits to the GI Clinic. During your child's first visit, a doctor or nurse practitioner will ask you and your child questions and your child will have a physical exam. X-rays, blood tests or other tests may be also be done during this visit, and the results will be sent to your child's other doctors. Additionally, a dietitian or other members of the GI team may see your child. Regular follow-up visits may be needed to see how your child is doing.
Leaving Your Appointment
The doctor or nurse practitioner will talk with you about any upcoming evaluation and make a plan for your child. This may include further testing (labs, x-rays) or procedures. A nurse will provide you with the information necessary for you to complete the care plan for your child. After you visit is complete, you will be directed to Check-Out to make your return visit, if necessary.
