Transition Events
#AdultingwithT1D 2017
In June 2017, the Pediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology Section hosted the annual “life after high school” event for older teens (age 16 and up) with type 1 diabetes and their caregivers. #AdultingwithT1D was a huge success and a great way to assist teens and families as they prepare for the next chapter in their lives. We look forward to hosting other transition events in the future. Below are a few highlights from #AdultingwithT1D 2017.
This outreach event was an interactive platform for youth and families living with diabetes to engage with clinicians, psychologists, social workers, and young adults with type 1 diabetes.
- Topics presented at this event included managing diabetes while in college and/or work, parents’ changing role, and knowing what to expect in adult care.
- Christina Roth, CEO of the College Diabetes Network, was the keynote speaker.
By the Numbers
- 54 participants attended #AdultingwithT1D—including teens, young adults, and parents
- 13 presenters spoke on topics about managing type 1 diabetes as a young adult
- 90% were “Highly Satisfied” with the #AdultingwithT1D event
