Urgent Care Bay (UCB)

About the Urgent Care Bay

The Urgent Care Bay provides a safe, family-centered, non-emergency room environment for our hematology-oncology patients during weekday outpatient clinic hours. The Urgent Care Bay of the Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Centers is an area dedicated to the care of our acutely ill patients. With 5 private rooms and a designated physician/advanced practice provider and nurse, we strive to deliver excellent and time-sensitive medical care to our children with urgent care needs.

How do I make an appointment to be seen in the Urgent Care Bay?

Patients may call their Patient Care Coordinator or Team Nurse during regular clinic hours to make an appointment to be seen in the Urgent Care Bay.  If your child is ill during the night or on a weekend, call the Hematology or Oncology physician on-call for consultation.

What are the hours of the Urgent Care Bay?

Patients may arrive between 8:30 am and 2:00 pm.  Arrivals after 2 pm do not allow sufficient time for evaluation and management prior to the outpatient clinic closing for the day.  Safety is our number one priority.

What kind of illnesses can be seen in Urgent Care Bay?

Please discuss your child's symptoms with your Patient Care Coordinator or Team Nurse.  The degree of the symptom(s) should exceed what can be reasonably managed at home.  Symptoms should warrant a "same-day" evaluation. Patients with life-threatening emergencies should call 911 and proceed directly to the Emergency Room at Texas Children's Hospital. Patients who have completed therapy for an oncologic diagnosis OR who are not actively followed in the Hematology or Oncology clinics with minor or general pediatric illness will be advised to seek care from their primary care pediatricians.

Where is the Urgent Care Bay located?

The Urgent Care Bay is located in the Lester and Sue Smith Outpatient Clinic, which is on the 14th floor of the Mark Wallace Tower at Texas Children's Hospital.
