Community Relations and Outreach
Texas Children’s Health Plan (TCHP) stays connected with the communities it serves by providing families, schools and community-based organizations with health information and other resources to help keep families healthy and safe. The Community Relations team hosts back-to-school events, conducts presentations and participates in several health fairs and community events in Houston and the surrounding area.
Community Impact 2014
- TCHP held health fairs to promote local community resources and provide health screenings. The health screenings were free to the public and include dental, vision, glucose and body mass index (BMI) checks; cholesterol, blood pressure, HIV screening and immunizations. In 2014, TCHP attended 647 health fairs and community events with more than 255,536 attendees.
- TCHP held application assistance drives where the Community Relations team collaborates with community-based partners – such as the Spring Branch Family Development Center, Southwest Multi-Service Center and Neighborhood Centers Inc. – to assist families in applying for CHIP and Medicaid. The team held 223 applicaion assistance drives in 2014, assisting many families with obtaining health coverage.
- TCHP participated in 24 health plan presentations with over 700 attendees in 2014.
