A little over 32 years ago, my parents learned their baby girl was born with the congenital heart defect Transposition of the Great Arteries. This meant the main arteries in my heart were switched and there was a hole in my heart.
Neuroblastoma is the most common solid tumor in childhood and accounts for approximately 8% of childhood cancers. Neuroblastoma tumors arise from tissues in the autonomic nervous system in the body, which controls body functions like movement of food within the intestines, sweating and blood pressure, among others. Neuroblastoma tumors can be found next to the spinal cord and in the adrenal glands above the kidneys, which are parts of the autonomic nervous system.

Since this is still the beginning of the new year, I would like to share some basic guidelines that I give my patients who need to lose weight OR simply need to eat healthier. There are principles here for all of us, including toddlers and young children. Many of the parents who come to see me read the rules and tell me that they are going to follow them, too! That’s the best idea — total family involvement. Nothing that I have written will be a surprise and all of my tips are simply a summary of what you have probably already heard, but need to be encouraged to DO!
