On April 8, 2012, I crossed the starting line with more than 850 people in the toughest foot race on Earth: the Marathon des Sables (MdS). The race is held in 6 stages over the course of 7 days, spanning 155 miles/240 km of the Sahara Desert in blistering heat (up to 120° F).
U.S. News & World Report released its annual list of Best Children’s Hospitals today, and I’m excited to share the results. This year, Texas Children’s Hospital ranks once again as the #4 best children’s hospital in the nation! And just like last year, we’re #1 in Houston, we’re #1 in Texas, and we’re #1 in the central and southwest U.S. This is a tremendous achievement and a tribute to our physicians and staff for their ardent dedication to excellence in patient care.
Obesity — it’s a hot topic. By now, the word has gotten out, New York City is on the move in trying to battle obesity by banning the sale of sugar-containing beverages that are greater than 16 ounces. New York was the first city that required restaurants and food establishments to post calorie and fat information on all foods sold. Now, they are attempting what they hope will be another stride in fighting obesity, stirring up controversy along the way.
