Matt Schaub Presents $108,000 Gift To West Campus For Second Child Life Playroom
On Monday my wife, Laurie, and I visited Texas Children's Hospital West Campus and had the pleasure of presenting the hospital leaders and staff with a $108,000 gift from our GR8 Hope Foundation to equip the community hospital's second Child Life playroom.
When we first began volunteering at Texas Children's with the Houston Texans we were delighted to see how joyful and happy the children were even though they were in the hospital. What we realized is that these young patients had such upbeat attitudes because of the hospital's wonderful team of Child Life specialists. These dedicated and highly trained professionals coordinate activities in the hospital's playrooms and at the bedside for both the patients and their siblings. They create an atmosphere where children can escape the sometimes frightening and mundane hospital environment.
As parents of a beautiful one-year-old daughter and with twin girls on the way, Laurie and I were immediately inspired by the bright and lasting smiles of the children in the playroom. That kind of positive impact on children inspired us to create our GR8 Hope Foundation to offer hope and happiness to children in the hospital and their families.
Texas Children's is a premier pediatric medical institution and we have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to learn about the Child Life program at West Campus. We are excited about equipping this new playroom and we know that this is just the "kickoff" of our longstanding relationship with Texas Children's Hospital.
