Statement from Texas Children's Hospital on Suspected Ebola Case
At this time, there are noconfirmed cases of Ebola at Texas Children's Hospital.We are currentlymonitoring a potential case at Texas Children's Hospital West Campus. Thepatient's initial blood test for the Ebola virushas been reported asnegative bythe Texas public health laboratory.Standard protocol requires the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)to conduct a confirmatorytest. We anticipate final test results from theCDC this weekend.
We have been in frequent contactwith the CDC, as well as city, county and state officials. We are followingtheir recommendations, our policies and standard medical protocols. For thepast two months, Texas Children's has been implementing a detailed plan toidentify, isolate and treat suspected cases of Ebola if necessary. We recentlyelevated our screening activities based on our protocols at all TexasChildren's facilities. Texas Children's Hospital's highest priority is thehealth and safety of those we serve. We will continue to keep our patients,their families, our staff and the community at-large informed to the fullestextent possible while also respecting the privacy rights of our patients.
