Outpatient facility opens at Texas Children's Hospital West Campus; emergency center and hospital services coming in spring 2011
HOUSTON - (Dec. 1, 2010) - Texas Children's Hospital announced that theoutpatient clinic building is open at its new West Campus,I-10 and Barker Cypress, and that the pediatric emergency center and hospitalservices are on target to open in spring 2011.
"We are excited to begin offering outpatient services at West Campus as thefirst step in providing expanded access to the unsurpassed care of TexasChildren's Hospital," said Michelle Riley-Brown, vice president of TexasChildren's Hospital West Campus. "As we celebrate this first milestone, we alsolook forward to spring 2011, when we will open our pediatric emergency centerand hospital services."
To ensure the smoothest possible opening experience for patientfamilies, Riley-Brown noted that the outpatient clinic facility is opening intwo phases. As of today, the first and second floors of the building are open,which includes outpatient treatment areas for physical/occupational therapy andspeech therapy; diabetes/endocrine; and gastroenterology and nutritionpractices.
Texas Children's Hospital West Campus is on track to open additional outpatientclinic practices by Dec. 7, said Riley-Brown. These include: audiology,cardiology, neurology, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, orthopedic surgery,pediatric surgery, pulmonary medicine and urology.
In spring 2011, the hematology/ oncology clinic will open, increasing thenumber of outpatient clinics at the facility to eleven.
Outpatient services formerly provided at Texas Children's West Houston HealthCenter will be offered at the new West Campus facility.
"Texas Children's has been a part of this community for many years andlaunching the West Campus outpatient clinic is our promise to continueproviding quality, convenient care to West Houston and the surrounding areasfor many years to come," added Riley-Brown.
Those families who have been patients at Texas Children's main campus or at oneof its health center locations will recognize many familiar faces, notedRiley-Brown, since all the pediatric specialists at its West Campus outpatientclinics have previously practiced at one or more of Texas Children's locations.

In addition to the specialty clinics, the building houses the campus' primarycare pediatric practice, TCPA - Town Country @ West Campus, which is openand accepting appointments in its new, more spacious location. The practicerelocated from 909 Frostwood Dr., Houston, 77024.
In spring 2011 West Campus will open a 12-bed pediatric emergency center, 48inpatient rooms, three operating rooms, a special procedures suite, advanceddiagnostic imaging services including MRI and CT scans, and a neurophysiologysleep laboratory.
