Happy Birthday, Texas Children’s
Texas Children’s
Hospital celebrates its 50th birthday in February 2004. Throughout
the year, Texas Children’s will host various events to mark 50 years
of children’s healthcare. Employee celebrations, a community
birthday party and patient events at its satellite clinics are just
a few of the events planned.
Texas Children’s
officially was dedicated on May 15, 1953. At that time, the hospital
had three stories and 106 beds. When it opened, the closest
children’s hospital was two days away by train.
Today, Texas
Children’s is the largest pediatric hospital in the nation, and has more than
2 million patient
encounters annually.

Children’s offers a highly skilled nursing and support staff of more
than 7,000.

in the nation, and U.S. News & World Report ranked it No. 5.

In addition to the main hospital, the Texas Children’s Integrated
Delivery System includes Texas Children’s
Pediatric Associates (TCPA),
a network of more than 140 primary care pediatricians in 44
practices in the Houston area. The hospital also operates six Texas
Children’s
Health Centers® throughout the city.
