Kinesiotaping Fundamentals and Advanced Whole Body Techniques Level KT1/KT2

This two-day course is designed to provide physical and occupational therapists with information and instruction on Kinesio Taping methods.  Kinesio Taping is a method of treatment for musculoskeletal and myofascial disorders and edema control.  This method can be used during physical activity and in conjunction with many therapies. Attendees will gain insight into theory and taping techniques for a variety of concerns, including joint instability, muscular weakness, abnormal alignment, pain and inflammation

The first day offers information on basic techniques and application of Kinesio Tape for the neck, trunk, upper and lower extremity.  The second day will focus on more specific taping methods and advanced concepts in Kinesio Taping.  A discussion on the use of taping for the various diagnoses seen in the pediatric and adult population. 

Who Should Attend?  PTs, OTs, ATCs, DCs, LACs, MTs, PTAs, OTAs and other medical practitioners. THIS COURSE IS INTENDED FOR LICENSED HEALTH CARE PRACTITIONERS ONLY

Course Objectives 

Upon completion of this course, including the lecture, demonstration and lab, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe the concepts of Kinesio Taping.
  • Review muscular anatomy as it is related to Kinesio Taping.
  • explain and apply the concepts of the Kinesio Taping Method.
  • Describe the unique qualities of the Kinesio Tex Tape.
  • Recognize the principles of Kinesio Tex Tape application.
  • Utilize and demonstrate application skills in guided laboratory sessions.
  • Demonstrate application skills during lab sessions.
  • Practice the various cutting techniques and their clinical application.
  • Apply Kinesio Taping method to relax and stimulate muscles.
  • Apply Kinesio Taping methods for pain, swelling, joint mobility and stability.
  • Apply various taping techniques for treatment of the spine, and upper/ lower extremity dysfunction
  • Apply various taping techniques for treatment of unique conditions using the concepts and principals of the Kinesio Taping Method.

Instructor 

Patricia Martin, PT, Certified Kinesio Tape Instructor, is currently manager of satellite therapy services at The Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital for Rehabilitation. She specializes in lower extremity biomechanics splint fabrication, and taping in the treatment of children with orthopedic and neurological involvement. She has over thirty years of experience in private practice, hospital and clinic settings. She has over 30 years of experience in treatment of adults and children with neurological and musculoskeletal issues as well as athletes. She co-authored the book Kinesio Taping in Pediatrics and has written articles on the use of Kinesio Tape in the pediatric population. She is pediatric NDT trained. She has taught pediatric taping and gait courses internationally.

Audrey Yasukawa, MOT, Certified Kinesio Tape Instructor, is currently Chief of Occupational Therapy at La Rabida Children’s Hospital in Chicago. Audrey served as a pediatric resource clinician at The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago for eight years. While at TIC, she assisted in the Upper Extremity Botox Clinic, piloted several pediatric research projects ,and published numerous articles as well as several research studies on casting and taping. She co-authored the book Kinesio Taping in Pediatrics. She is pediatric and adult NDT trained. Audrey has over 25 years of experience working with adult and pediatric patients with a variety of neurological and musculoskeletal diagnoses. She has taught pediatric casting and taping courses internationally.
