Personal Statement
I am a clinician-educator and medical education researcher whose professional mission is to advance the training of medical learners in the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for the care of individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities. My practice focuses on direct patient care, clinical instruction, graduate medical education program leadership, and the publication and dissemination of medical education research and enduring educational materials. Clinically, I am dedicated to the early detection, diagnosis, and management of children at the highest risk for neurodevelopmental disabilities.
Clinical Interests: High-risk infant and neonatal neurodevelopmental follow-up (including prematurity, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH), and related neurologic disorders), neurologic neonatal intensive care, early detection and management of cerebral palsy and motor neurodevelopmental disorders, genetic disorders, and the intersection of neurologic and developmental care of children.
Research Interests: My primary academic research interests involve educational design research (EDR), which incorporates educational and learning theory into practical, real-world curriculum development and instructional design contexts. I am actively involved in research surrounding improving the process of how we teach medical learners, particularly regarding the care of children with neurodevelopmental disabilities. Clinical research interests include program development in high-risk infant/neonatal follow-up and long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes of high-risk infants and children with genetic disorders.
