Dr. Chaya Murali earned her undergraduate degree at Rice University and her medical doctorate at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), where she showed an early interest in pediatric genetics. After completing combined pediatrics and medical genetics residency at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, she returned to BCM, where she spent two years in a clinical postdoctoral fellowship. During that time, she cultivated a research interest and expertise in quality of life (QoL) in people living with genetic diagnoses. She has been an assistant professor in the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics since 2020. Currently, she sees patients in the skeletal dysplasia and general genetics clinics at the Texas Children’s Hospital Medical Center Campus and in the general genetics clinic at Texas Children’s The Woodlands.
Dr. Murali has a keen interest in understanding and improving the lived experiences of children with genetic conditions and their families. She is passionate about patient education and strives to ensure all of her patients understand their genetic tests and diagnoses.
In her free time, Dr. Murali enjoys reading, writing, crocheting, gardening, and playing with her dog.
