Personal Statement
Alaundra Carmouche is a dedicated Family Nurse Practitioner with over 26 years of experience. She specializes in pediatric hemoglobinopathies at Baylor College of Medicine where she is a faculty member at Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Center. Her specialties include: sickle cell disease, Hydroxyurea, stroke, chronic transfusion management, and transition. Alaundra is a member of the Sickle Cell Program.
Throughout her career, she had the opportunity to advance from a medical assistant to a licensed vocational nurse, associate degree nurse, bachelor prepared nurse, and then master prepared nurse. Working in this capacity has given her the knowledge to provide patient care from primary duties to diagnosing and treatment.
Her clinical focus area manages the challenges and comorbidities of children with sickle cell disease that may occur acutely and through their lifespan. She is also also actively participating in improving adolescent patients' readiness with sickle cell disease to transition to adult care. Her goal is to be a leader and expert in the area of sickle cell awareness and disease.
Her current academic goal is to complete a Doctor of Nursing Practice and become an expert in leading and implementing evidence-based practice outcomes in her patient population. She would also like to become an effective educator and make a difference in the careers of those she mentors.
She is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).
