Family-Centered Care in the NICU

Support for your family

Family-centered care means care that involves your whole family and includes social support and counseling in a respectful, compassionate environment. That’s what you and your family deserve and that’s what we offer in the Texas Children’s NICUs.

At Texas Children’s, we know that having a child — especially a newborn — in the hospital is extremely difficult. Our goal is to make you and your family as comfortable as possible and promote bonding. Families are an integral part of a child’s care team, and we are responsive to your suggestions. In fact, parent feedback has shaped many of the benefits and services in our NICUs.

Benefits of family-centered care

  • Unlimited family presence, including siblings and extended family
  • Accommodations for parents through our onsite Ronald McDonald House

  • Translation services available 24/7
  • Comprehensive parent education and follow-up care
  • Family Vision, which enables you to see your baby and interact with the care team at Texas Children’s via a video/audio link

Listening to families

Texas Children's Newborn Center is committed to providing exceptional, family-centered care. Since families are an integral part of their baby's care team, we created the Newborn Center Family Advisory Committee to promote and enhance family-centered care practices and encourage partnerships between family members and health care professionals. This committee ensures that voices of families are heard and included as we continue to develop and refine our services.
