Texas Children's Hospital announces new plastic surgeon

Texas Children's Hospital is excited to announce the addition of Dr. Mitchel Seruya to the department of surgery. Seruya will also serve as an assistant professor of plastic surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and specializes in hand and microvascular surgery. His unique expertise will allow him to play an integral role in growing the department.

"Dr. Seruya will be a great asset to our team as he expresses his enthusiasm to expand community awareness on the comprehensive pediatric upper extremity and microsurgery services we offer," says Dr. Larry H. Hollier, chief of plastic surgery at Texas Children's and at Baylor. "We are excited to see all of the wonderful things he will accomplish in his future with Texas Children's Hospital and Baylor, as his expertise will broaden our ability to care for children."

Seruya's clinical interests include obstetric brachial plexus palsy, cerebral palsy, congenital hand anomalies and traumatic hand injuries. He earned his bachelor's of science and medical degree at Columbia University and completed his plastic surgery residency at Georgetown University Hospital. Seruya left Washington, D.C. in 2012 to complete his craniofacial and hand/micro fellowships at Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, VIC Australia.

Author of five book chapters and 30 publications in various peer-reviewed journals, Seruya is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including Best Congenital Deformity Paper at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons 2012 Senior Resident Conference. He has also presented at multiple conferences, gaining national and international recognition including presentations in Canada, Australia and Singapore.
