It’s another exciting day here at Texas Children’s Hospital. Today, we get to proudly share our hospital is recognized as the best place in the country for pediatric cardiology and heart surgery, as well as pulmonology, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Texas Children’s is consistently named a leader in pediatric care nationally. For the second year in a row, we rank as the best place for children in need of cardiology and heart surgery. Additionally, in the 2018-19 edition of Best Children’s Hospitals, we rank as the best pulmonary care program in the country and are among the top five programs nationally in four additional subspecialties including nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, gastroenterology and GI surgery, and urology.

You might think, “This all sounds great, but what does it mean to me as a parent or patient family?” To put it simply, these rankings and survey findings shine a light on our unwavering commitment to providing the best possible patient outcomes to the children and families in our care.

Rankings like these aren’t boiled down to a perfect science, but they do provide a reliable starting point for families facing difficult decisions regarding where to seek health care and treatment for their children. They identify the top programs in pediatric subspecialties across the country, so we encourage patient families to use them as part of their decision-making framework for pediatric care, alongside evaluating a specific program’s outcomes for a child’s diagnosis, looking at other support services available through the hospital, and knowing where to secure additional family support, amongst other factors unique to each family.

What I can tell you is at Texas Children’s we use these survey findings as a tool in our commitment to ceaseless quality improvement of our outcomes. We’re immensely proud of our rankings, but we want parents and caregivers to know our work is never finished. Even with our highest-ranked programs, we’re always searching for opportunities to do better and to be better – for our patients, for your family, and most importantly, for your child.
