The pulmonary diagnostic laboratory performs a number of diagnostic tests and procedures. The laboratory is staffed by pulmonary technologists, respiratory therapists and nurses. Procedures that may be ordered in the lab include:

Pulmonary function tests

• Spirometry
• Bronchodilator response evaluation
• Lung volumes
• Body plethysmography
• Exercise tests
• Methacholine bronchoprovocation
• Infant pulmonary function tests

Control of breathing studies

• Multi-channel studies to evaluate patients with cardiorespiratory problems
• Interpretation of apnea monitor data

Arterial blood gas evaluation

The laboratory also provides respiratory care therapies and education to patients in the ambulatory setting, such as:

• Aerosol therapy and instruction
• Airway clearance instruction
• Asthma and cystic fibrosis education
