Labor and Delivery

Texas Children’s Hospital and St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital want to make your transition from pregnancy to motherhood as easy as possible. Below, you will find some practical resources to make your birthing experience a smooth and rewarding one.

Getting to the Hospital

Labor and Delivery is located on the third floor of St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital. If you need immediate assistance, go to the emergency entrance of St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, enter into the main lobby then take the purple elevators to the third floor. Valet parking is available 24 hours a day and costs the same as garage parking.

Options for Easing Labor

St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital offers the following in its birthing rooms to make labor as comfortable as possible:

  • Birthing balls
  • Showers
  • Jacuzzi tubs in select rooms
  • Aromatherapy
  • Massage tools
  • Nurses trained in doula care
  • Epidurals and other pain medication options

You may also bring family members and friends to support you during labor and delivery. For safety and security reasons, visitors to Labor and Delivery, as well as to the Mother-Baby Unit must show a photo ID and obtain a visitor badge to gain access to these areas.

Breastfeeding

Since evidence demonstrates that mother’s milk is best, our philosophy of family-centered maternity care directly supports breastfeeding and infant bonding by encouraging mothers and babies to stay close together as much as possible after birth and throughout the hospital stay. A mother-baby nurse will be with you from the start to help you position your baby at the breast, answer questions and assist you with any breastfeeding challenges you might face. Texas Children’s Hospital lactation specialists are also available to assist you during your hospital stay.
