CANCER
CENTER
David diagnosed at 2,
acute lymphoblastic
leukemia
As twins, Tara and Sara have an
uncommon bond. They love hugs, tea parties for two and playing
with their dog. And they both are fighting acute lymphoblastic
leukemia (ALL).
When Tara was 2, she woke up with a
nosebleed. The twins’ mom, Monica, rushed Tara to Texas
Children’s, where she was diagnosed and treated. Then, when Sara
began to bruise easily, her parents suspected the worst. Five
months – almost to the day
–
after Tara’s diagnosis, their fears
were confirmed when they found out Sara also had leukemia.
Now, after successful treatment at
Texas Children’s Cancer Center, both girls are in remission and
visit the hospital every few weeks for chemotherapy.
“Visiting the cancer center is like going home,” Monica says.
“Everyone is always smiling and gives us a big welcome.”
Monica, who is a nurse, knew from the
beginning that Texas Children’s is a special place.
“You can tell everyone at Texas
Children’s loves children,” she says. “they know how to make
them feel comfortable an how to answer their questions. They just
have a way.”
