Kinesiotaping Fundamentals and Advanced Whole Body Techniques Level KT1/KT2
March 14 & 15, 2009

Course Description
This two day course is designed to provide physical and occupational therapists with information and instruction on Kinesio Taping methods. Kinesio taping is a method of treatment for musculoskeletal and myofascial disorders and edema control. This method can be used during physical activity and in conjunction with many therapies. Attendees will gain insight into theory and taping techniques for a variety of concerns, including joint instability, muscular weakness, abnormal alignment, pain and inflammation.

The first day offers information on basic techniques and application of Kinesio Tape for the neck, trunk, upper and lower extremity. The second day will focus on more specific taping methods and advanced concepts in Kinesio Taping.

Course Objectives

  • Explain the concepts of Kinesio Taping.
  • Discuss the difference between rigid and Kinesio Tex applications.
  • Apply the learned skills of Kinesio Taping techniques in the lab sessions.
  • Demonstrate and upper and lower extremity taping method.
  • Identify the benefits of Kinesio Taping for various diagnoses.
  • Describe the key components of a comprehensive therapy program to be used in conjunction with Kinesio Taping.

About the Instructors
Patricia Martin, PT, Certified Kinesio Tape Instructor, is currently manager of satellite services at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation Children’s Hospital for Rehabilitation. She is pediatric NDT trained. She has taught pediatric taping courses nationally.

Audrey Yasukawa, OT, Certified Kinesio Tape Instructor, has served as a pediatric resource clinician at The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. She is pediatric and adult NDT trained. She has over 20 years experience with upper extremity casting.

Course Schedule
Day One
8:00 Registration
8:30-10:00 Introductions to Kinesio Taping Concepts and History, Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Kinesiotaping.
10:00-10:45 Review of UE and LE anatomy
10:45-12:00 Cervical alignment, Semispinlis/Spinalis of erector Spinae muscle group, Trunk extension, Taping for shoulder, deltoid, rhomboids, Upper Trapezius.
12:00-1:00 LUNCH
1:00-2:45 Taping forearm and hand, lateral epicondylitis, wrist pain-carpal tunnel, wrist extension, DeQuervain’s tenosynovitis, thumb extension; Trunk disc Herniation.
2:45-3:30 Taping LE; Tight IT band; Quadriceps/patellar tendonitis; Hamstrings; Plantar flexion; Dorsiflexion/modified
3:30-4:30 Clinical treatment application/demonstration
4:30-5:00 Questions/answers

Day Two
8:00-8:15 Review and questions
8:15-9:00 Advanced Techniques: Lymphatic correction; Fascia Correction; Space Correction; Mechanical correction; Functional correction
9:00-10:45 Lower Extremity: Hip rotation/abduction; Knee hyperextension; patellar tracking; Plantar fascitis; Toe clawing.
10:45-12:00 Upper Extremity: Scapula stabilization; Subluxed shoulder; Forward shoulder.
12:00-1:00 LUNCH
1:00-2:45 Shoulder external rotation; Forearm supination; Palmar stability; Ulnar deviation; Abdominals.
2:45-4:30 Clinical treatment application and case presentation/ demonstration
4:30-5:00 Questions and answers/ course evaluations
