Texas Children’s Audiology Center

The Texas Children's Hospital Audiology Center provides comprehensive diagnostic hearing evaluations for infants and children of all ages and developmental levels.

Risk factors for hearing loss include hospitalization in a neonatal intensive care unit, family history of hearing loss, meningitis or other illness with a sustained high fever, ear infections, chronic upper respiratory infections and speech and language delay.

Tests provided by the center include behavioral, auditory brainstem response (ABR), auditory steady state response (ASSR), immittance audiometry and otoacoustic emissions (OAE). Additional services provided include hearing aid evaluations and fittings, and cochlear implant evaluations and programming.

The Audiology Center is staffed by 10 licensed and certified audiologists, 2 audiology assistants, and 2 registered nurses. All audiologists at Texas Children's Hospital have advanced degrees, have the certificate of clinical competence (CCC) by the American Speech Hearing Association (ASHA) and are licensed by the state of Texas to practice audiology and to fit and dispense hearing aids.

Referral for evaluation is generally accepted from the child's physician, teacher or parent.
