There are many sites
devoted to scoliosis on the Web. A large number of the sites that
pop up near the top of search lists are maintained by chiropractors.
Others are by patients who have scoliosis, many of whom share
personal experiences about their surgery. Their stories, while of
interest, need to be taken with a grain of salt at times. Some
orthopaedic surgeons and medical schools also have sites.
Remember
URLs that end in .com are commercial sites. Sites that end in .org
are not-for-profit and sites ending in .edu are associated with
educational institutions. Below are a few sites that our staff has
found that provide reliable information:
Scoliosis Research
Society - http://srs.org/
The oldest orthopaedic
organization devoted to the care of children and adults with
scoliosis and other spinal deformities. Includes patient oriented
information as well as a geographically organized directory of
elected fellows.
Scoliosis mailing list
-
http://www.ai.mit.edu/extra/scoliosis//scoliosis.html
A very large site with a
great variety of information about scoliosis, including references
for lay people and questions to ask your doctor. It also discusses
alternative treatments.
The University of
Iowa’s Virtual Hospital -
http://www.vh.org/Providers/Textbooks/AIS/AIS.html
A page discussing
scoliosis in some detail, including surgery.
