OUR TEAM
OF EXPERTS
Care at Texas
Children's Fetal Center is a collaboration of a
multidisciplinary team of experts. The core staff of the Texas
Children’s Fetal Center is comprised of fetal and pediatric
surgeons, maternal-fetal medicine specialists and specialized nurse
coordinators who openly communicate about all aspects of the care of
the fetal patient from acute intervention to the exceptional
neonatal care provided at Texas Children’s Hospital.
The team also
includes anesthesiologists, radiologists, cardiologists, neonatologists, urologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons and genetics
specialists with expertise in fetal conditions.

Darrell Cass, M.D., F.A.C.S., F.A.A.P.
Curriculum Vitae
Dr. Cass serves as co-director of the
Texas Children’s Fetal Center and is a member of the fetal surgery
team. After receiving his M.D. in 1991 from the University of
California Los Angeles School of Medicine, Dr. Cass pursued his
residency in general surgery at the University of California San
Francisco. During that time, Dr. Cass studied as a postdoctoral
research fellow at the Fetal Treatment Center at the University of
California San Francisco and at the Center for Fetal Diagnosis and
Treatment and the Children’s Institute for Surgical Science at The
Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Cass is a member of the
American Pediatric Surgical Association, the International Fetal
Medicine and Surgery Society and is a fellow of the surgical section
of the American Academy of Pediatrics and American College of
Surgeons. He is board certified in
surgery and pediatric surgery.

Anthony Johnson, D.O.

Vitae
A member of the fetal intervention
team at the Texas Children’s Fetal Center, Dr. Johnson
completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at
Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills, Mich. He went
on to finish fellowships in both maternal-fetal medicine and
medical genetics at Pennsylvania Hospital and Thomas
Jefferson University Hospital, respectively. While at the
University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel
Hill, N.C., Dr. Johnson served as director of both
the fetal intervention program and the Division of
Reproductive Genetics. He is board certified by the American
Osteopathic Association in clinical genetics, obstetrics and
gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine and in clinical
genetics by the American Board of Human Genetics. Dr.
Johnson is a member of the International Fetal Medicine and
Surgery Society and
the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine. He serves on the
executive board of the North American Fetal Treatment
Network.

Kenneth Moise, Jr., M.D.

Dr. Moise serves as a member of
the fetal intervention team at the Texas Children’s Fetal
Center. After receiving his M.D. from Louisiana State
Medical School in 1981, he performed his residency in
obstetrics and gynecology at Vanderbilt University School of
Medicine in Nashville, Tenn., and completed a fellowship in
maternal-fetal medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in
Houston, Texas. In addition to being a member of the Society
for Maternal-Fetal Medicine and a Fellow of the American
College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Moise is a past
president of the International Fetal Medicine and Surgery
Society. He also serves on the executive board of the North
American Fetal Treatment Network.

Oluyinka Olutoye, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.S.,
F.A.A.P.
Curriculum Vitae
Co-director of the Texas
Children’s Fetal Center and fetal surgery team member,
Dr. Olutoye received his M.D. from Obafemi Awolowo
University in Ile-Ife, Nigeria, in 1988 and his Ph.D. in
anatomy from Virginia Commonwealth University in
Richmond, Va., in 1996. He completed his residency in
general surgery at the Medical College of Virginia
Hospitals, Virginia Commonwealth University, and his
fellowship in pediatric surgery at The Children’s
Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of
Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pa. Dr.
Olutoye is a member of the International Fetal Medicine
and Surgery Society, a fellow of the surgical section of
the American Academy of Pediatrics and
and American College of Surgeons
and is board
certified in surgery and pediatric surgery.

Ramesha Papanna, M.D.
Dr. Papanna is a clinical
fellow and a member of the fetal intervention team at
the Texas Children’s Fetal Center. After receiving his
M.D. from University of Manipal Academy of Higher
Education, Kasturba College of Medicine, India, he
performed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at
Rochester General Hospital, an affiliate of University
of Rochester, Rochester, New York. He graduated from
University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston, TX
in Master of Public Health. He is a junior member of the
Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, a member of the
American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a
member of American Association of Gynecologic
Laparoscopists.

Bella Belleza-Bascon, R.N., M.H.A.
Bella Belleza-Bascon holds a master’s degree in health care
administration from Texas Woman’s University and has more than 16
years of nursing experience. She works closely with the fetal and
pediatric surgeons to coordinate patient care and monitor the
outcomes and progress of each patient. Prior to her position at the
Texas Children’s Fetal Center, Belleza-Bascon was the head clinical
research coordinator for the Department of Medicine - Endocrinology
at Baylor College of Medicine. She has also held positions as
nursing supervisor and head nurse at Baylor College of Medicine and
was a clinical instructor for medical surgical nursing and for
nursing leadership at Velez College of Nursing in Cebu, Philippines.

Karen
Moise, R.N.
Karen Moise has been a registered nurse for nearly 30 years and is
responsible for informing referring physicians and patients about
the etiology, pathophysiology and evaluation process of fetuses with
congenital anomalies. Prior to taking on her role at the Texas
Children’s Fetal Center, she held a similar position at the Center
for Maternal and Infant Health at the University of North Carolina
School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, N.C. Moise’s staff appointments
have included labor and delivery nurse at Rex Hospital in Raleigh,
N.C.; Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.; and St.
Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Houston, Texas. She is also a certified
laser and radio frequency ablation (RFA) Technician.

Meagan Nichols Byrd, MS, RN, BC
Meagan Byrd holds a master’s degree in nursing education from Texas
Woman’s University and has nearly 11 years of women’s health,
oncology, nursing staff development, and academic education
experience. She works closely with the fetal center physicians to
coordinate patient care and monitor the outcomes and progress of
each patient. Prior to her role in the Texas Children’s Fetal
Center, Meagan was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Nursing at
Texas Woman’s University. In addition to her career in nursing, she
has served in various volunteer roles throughout the southeast Texas
community, including several years as a volunteer firefighter.
Meagan is currently pursing a PhD in Nursing.

Coral Perez, BS
Coral Perez holds a bachelor’s of science degree in health with an
emphasis on community health from Texas A&M University. She works
with the Fetal Center as an intake coordinator and is responsible
for coordinating appointments and helping guide patient care. Coral
is originally from Puerto Rico and is bilingual, speaking both
English and Spanish. Prior to joining Texas Children’s Fetal Center,
Coral interned with Texas Children’s Hospital’s Volunteer Services
and is still actively involved in volunteering.

Courtney Rupp, BS
As a Fetal Center Appointment Coordinator, Courtney Rupp is
responsible for helping patients navigate through the Fetal Center
and with coordinating patient care. She graduated from Texas State
University and holds a bachelor’s degree in public administration
with an emphasis on healthcare administration and finance. Courtney
originally hails from Portland, Oregon and has a passion for helping
all patients receive the very best in service from the minute they
contact Texas Children’s Fetal Center.

Irma Marshall, CNA
Irma is an Appointment Coordinator with The Texas Children’s Fetal
Center. Prior to her role with The Fetal Center, Irma served as an
appointment scheduler for Pediatric Services with Texas Children’s
Hospital for over 9 years. With her many years of experience at the
hospital, Irma brings a great deal of knowledge and skill to her
current position. Irma is bilingual in both English and Spanish and
prides herself on consistently delivering great customer service.
