TEXAS CHILDREN'S DERMATOLOGY CLINIC
Texas Children’s Hemangioma Research Clinic

Dr. Denise Metry has a special interest in infantile hemangiomas, and has published and lectured extensively in this area (see Curriculum Vitae). She runs a Hemangioma Clinic held on several Mondays and Thursdays of each month. She is actively involved in hemangioma research (for current studies, see below) as a member of the Hemangioma Investigative Group.

Current Research Studies:

  1. High-Risk Hemangiomas
This research study focuses on children with certain types of hemangiomas shown to be at greater risk for problems:
    1. Infants 6 months or younger with multiple (5 or more) skin hemangiomas or a single large hemangioma of the skin, which may rarely be associated with liver hemangioma(s)
    2. Infants 1 year or younger with large hemangiomas of the face, which can rarely be associated with birth defects of the eyes, brain, skin, sternum, or heart, also known as PHACE syndrome.
    3. Children 18 years or younger with skin hemangiomas over the lower, center part of the back that may be associated with defects of the spinal cord.

Participation in this study is entirely voluntary and will not affect the care given to your child by Dr. Metry. The purpose of this study is to collect information on these 3 uncommon groups of patients, and involves a questionnaire which takes 15 minutes or less to complete. Otherwise, the evaluation of your child will be no different than if he or she were not a study participant. There are no costs to participate, and no payment for participation. Patient screening and enrollment in this study will be performed during regularly scheduled Hemangioma Clinics.

  1. PHACE Syndrome Patient Registry
