TEXAS CHILDREN'S DERMATOLOGY CLINIC
Texas Children’s Hemangioma Research Clinic

Dr. Denise Metry has a special interest in infantile hemangiomas and has published and lectured extensively in this area (see Curriculum Vitae). She runs the Hemangioma Clinic held on several Mondays and Thursdays of each month. She is actively involved in hemangioma research (for current studies, see below) as a member of the Hemangioma Investigator Group.

For Hemangioma Clinic appointments call 832-822-3463.

Current Research Studies:

  1. High-Risk Hemangiomas*
This research study collects information on children with certain types of hemangiomas shown to be at greater risk for problems:
    1. Infants 6 months or younger with 5 or more skin hemangiomas or a single large hemangioma of the skin, which may rarely be associated with liver hemangioma(s). CLOSED
    2. Infants 1 year or younger with large hemangiomas of the face, which can rarely be associated with birth defects of the eyes, brain, skin, sternum, or heart, also known as PHACE syndrome. CLOSED
    3. Children 18 years or younger with skin hemangiomas over the lower, center part of the back that may be associated with defects of the spinal cord. OPEN

2.       Infantile Hemangiomas in Twins NEW*
The purpose of this research study is to determine if certain factors are associated with infantile hemangiomas.

*Participation in research studies is entirely voluntary and will not affect the care given to your child by Dr. Metry. Both studies involve questionnaires which take 15 minutes or less to complete. Digital photographs will also be taken of your child’s hemangioma during his or her clinic visit. Otherwise, the evaluation of your child will be no different than if he or she were not a study participant. There is no cost to participate and no payment for participation. Patient screening and enrollment in this study will be performed during regularly scheduled Hemangioma Clinics.
