Adverse Drug Events or ADEs are drug side effects, drug delivery errors, or drug prescription errors which result in unwanted negative consequences. By monitoring ADEs, Texas Children's Hospital can put into place processes that prevent the re-occurrence of an ADE.

A central line catheter is a small plastic tube placed into a larger blood vessel. This catheter is used to deliver fluids and medications, and to draw blood tests. When bacteria enter the bloodstream through this catheter the result is a central line infection (which can lead to a bloodstream infection or BSI) and an ill child. Texas Children's Hospital is continuously working to reduce the occurrence of central line infections. Our measures reflect overall rate of the Catheter Associated BSI in our intensive care units.

An asthma reliever is a drug that provides relief from asthma symptoms during an asthma attack. 100% of patients admitted to Texas Children's Hospital with Asthma as a primary diagnosis should receive an asthma relief medication.

Corticosteroids reverse the inflammation brought on by asthma. 100% of patients discharged from Texas Children's Hospital with a primary diagnosis of asthma should receive this medication.

100% of children admitted to Texas Children's Hospital with asthma as a primary diagnosis should have a written plan for management of the condition when they are discharged.

The average number of days from the date a complaint or grievance is reported to Family Advocacy to the date the complaint or grievance is resolved. At Texas Children's Hospital our goal is to resolve complaints and grievances within 21 days.
