Participants will improve their understanding of child abuse and neglect, discuss laws that govern our practice and discuss ethical practice for health professionals.
 


Fighting the Flu: What Everybody Needs to Know about Seasonal and Pandemic Influenza
Presented by: Gail J. Demmler, M.D.
Professor in the Infectious Disease Section of the Department of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas. She is an attending physician in the Infectious Diseases Service and director of the Diagnostic Virology Laboratory, at Texas Children's Hospital.

Participants will learn to evaluate the importance of infants and children in influenza disease burden, research resources for checking updated information on influenza, explain the advantages and limitations of rapid testing for influenza in the point-of-care setting, identify the recent changes in influenza vaccination recommendations for infants and children and manage treatment of influenza disease using currently recommended medications.



Hemangiomas: When to Worry; What to Do
Denise W. Metry, M.D.
Chief, Dermatology Clinic,
Texas Children's Hospital and Associate Professor, Dermatology and Pediatrics, Baylor College of Medicine.

Participants will learn to identify types of hamangiomas and associated risk factors, recognize the morphology and location of hemangiomas to determine possible complications and assess indications, risks and benefits of treatment options.
 



The Obesity Crisis: The Epidemic, The Consequences and The Solution
