- Acetominophen is the preferred drug for treatment of fever and pain.
- Ibuprofen (e.g. Advil and Motrin ®) Dosage: determine by finding your child's weight in the top row of the dosage table.
- Ibuprofen drops come with a measuring tool.
- Adult dose: 400 mg
- Repeat every 6-8 hours as needed. Do not exceed 4 doses within a 24 hour period.
- Do not use in children under 6 months of age (Reason: safety not established and doesn't have FDA approval.)
- Use with caution if your child is receiving methotrexate, cyclosporine, digoxin and/or blood thinners.
- Use with caution if your child has a history of bleeding problems, asthma or liver disease.
- May cause upset stomach, headache or blurred vision. Contact your child's physician if these become bothersome.
- Contact your child's physician immediately if your child has unusual bruising, bleeding or black stools, or severe flu-like symptoms while taking ibupofen.
