When it's more than growing pains:
Study shows arthritis of the spine is overlooked in kids
When kids or teens experience aching joints and stiffness it may be growing pains - or it could be something far more serious. Researchers say arthritis of the spine and other joints can go undiagnosed for years, leading to serious problems as children grow into adults. The findings, generated from the first national life impact study of ankylosing spondylitis and reported in a recent issue of Arthritis Care and Research, highlight the need for increased awareness among physicians and parents and earlier treatment of the disease.
