
Dr. Charles Hankins is the chief medical officer at Texas Children's Hospital West Campus. A native of East Tennessee, he finished medical school at the University of Tennessee. Following medical school, Dr. Hankins completed his residency training in pediatrics in Texas and then went on to complete a fellowship in neonatology in Washington, DC, as a member of the U.S. Army. After fellowship he was assigned to Fort Hood, Texas, and became chief, Department of Pediatrics.
After exiting the military, he established a private practice in Memphis, Tennessee, which he operated for 10 years before selling to a national provider group. In 1998, he completed a physician-oriented MBA program. He remained with the national group for 2 years prior to arriving at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital in April 2003. Since then he has worked on building community providers and facility networks with Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine. In this role, he has worked with many area healthcare leaders in defining and implementing plans for care in multiple facilities.
