In its first-ever stand-alone “America’s Best Children’s
Hospitals” issue, U.S.News & World Report has made Texas
Children’s Heart Center the focus of an extensive editorial
feature.
The article, titled “Fixing Makenna’s Heart,” tells the story of
Makenna, a four-year old born with hypoplastic left-heart
syndrome, and the Texas Children’s team, led by Dr. Charles
D. Fraser Jr., who rebuilt her heart and “gave her the gift of
life.”
The compelling, six-page photo essay follows Makenna and her
parents through her third—and, hopefully, last—surgery just a
few weeks ago.
More children with pediatric and congenital cardiac diseases are
treated at Texas Children's Heart Center than almost any
hospital in the United States – and our success rates are among
the best. It’s a track record grounded in a simple formula:
premier physicians, an ultramodern facility and groundbreaking
research.
Our acclaimed heart center, led by Dr. Jeffrey
A. Towbin and
Dr. Charles D. Fraser, Jr. includes 34 pediatric cardiologists
and four pediatric cardiovascular surgeons. Our six pediatric
cardiovascular anesthesiologists put us in an elite group of
pediatric heart programs worldwide. And five of the world's 65
board-certified pediatric perfusionists call Texas Children’s
Heart Center home.
| With surgical outcomes better than 98 percent, each year we
perform: |
| |
 |
15,000 patient consultations |
|
|
 |
1,000 cardiac catheterizations |
|
| |
 |
750 cardiac surgical procedures
|
|
| |
 |
500 open-heart surgeries |
|
| |
 |
15 to 25 heart transplants |
|
The Heart Center sees more than
15,000 patients annually, with outcomes among the best in the
country. It also houses the largest pediatric lung and pediatric
heart transplant programs in the country. Additionally, our surgeons
perform complex double organ transplants, such as heart-lung,
heart-kidney and lung-liver.
