New Functional Strategies to Improve Social Skills and Address Challenging Behaviors in: Autism, Aspergers Syndrome, Sensory Processing Disorders and Pervasive Developmental Disorders
January 16-17, 2009

Course Description
Effectively treat children with sensory integration and behavior problems using a new approach that combines sensory integration and behavioral techniques to proactively address interfering behaviors and strengthen social skills and learning. This workshop emphasizes practical evidence based strategies involving handling, play, art, music, and movement activities. This approach synthesizes Sensory Integration, Behavioral, NDT, NeuroPsychology and Trager Body Work. You will leave this seminar armed with numerous strategies to implement immediately with children with Autism, Aspergers, Sensory Processing Disorders, and Pervasive developmental Disorders and other challenging behaviors.

Course Objectives

  • Efficiently assess and differentiate sensory integration and behavioral problems in infants, children, and adolescents.
  • Describe several strategies for managing behavior problems (e.g., inattention, screaming, kicking, biting) during individual and small group treatment sessions.
  • Develop environmental adaptations (e.g., sensory areas) in school, home, clinic, and hospital settings that promote self-control and learning in infants, children, and adolescents with developmental disabilities.
  • Demonstrate the use of new handling, play, music, movement, and art activities that address children’s combined sensory integration and behavior problems.
