The Blue Bird
Circle Muscular Dystrophy Association Clinic
specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care
of neuromuscular diseases in children. We are affiliated with
the national Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Pediatric
neuromuscular diseases evaluated and treated in the clinic include a
group of more than 30 genetic diseases characterized by
progressive weakness and degeneration of the nerves and muscles that
control movement. Some forms of neuromuscular disease occur in
infancy or childhood, while others may not appear until middle age
or later.
These disorders
vary in the distribution and extent of weakness, age of onset, rate
of progression and pattern of inheritance. Common conditions we

comprehensive, family-centered patient care, education and research
for families of children with neuromuscular diseases. Our team
includes pediatric neurologists, cardiologists, pulmonologists,
physical medicine specialists, orthopedic surgeons, social workers,
neuropsychologist, psychologist and trained volunteers from the Blue
Bird Circle.
