Childbirth and parent education classes

Lamaze Prepared Childbirth Class...$95 Fee
This four-session class series prepares an expectant mother and her partner for labor, delivery and recovery using the Lamaze method of childbirth preparation. The class provides normal birth information including the stages of labor and delivery, relaxation and breathing techniques, positioning and coping skills. Parents are provided opportunities to practice newly acquired labor skills. Medications for labor, including epidurals, and cesarean surgery is also covered. Information helps expectant parents make informed choices about their birth experience whether the mother has a vaginal birth, epidural for labor, or a cesarean surgery. This comprehensive class is recommended for first time parents, beginning early in the seventh month of pregnancy. Class size is limited; register early in the pregnancy.

Birth Basics...$95 Fee (includes Medications Interventions & Cesareans and The Labor Lab)
This three-session weekend class series provides the expectant mother and her partner the basics of normal labor, delivery and recovery. Class includes information about the stages of labor and delivery, and non-pharmacologic techniques for birth such as relaxation, breathing, positioning and coping skills. Information helps expectant parents make informed choices about their birth experience. Medication, Interventions & Cesareans and a Labor Lab are included; choose the additional Saturday class when you register. Begin Birth Basics in the seventh or eighth month of pregnancy, however, register early in the pregnancy.

Medications, Interventions & Cesareans and The Labor Lab...$30 Fee (included in Birth Basics)
This one-session class provides expectant parents with information about possible choices they face in pregnancy and labor such as inductions, fetal monitoring, medications, epidural for labor and cesarean surgery. Information will help expectant parents make informed choices about their birth experience. The Labor Lab is an independent, guided labor rehearsal for women and their support team with an instructor available for questions. Plan to take this class in the seventh or eighth month of pregnancy and after Birth Basics. Class size is limited; register early in the pregnancy. This session is appropriate as a stand-alone class for mothers and their partners planning a scheduled cesarean surgery.

Breastfeeding Class...$30 Fee
Breastfeeding for the first time can be challenging and rewarding. In this one session class learn how breast milk is produced, how to prepare for breastfeeding, encouraging baby to nurse, common problems nursing mothers may face, and considerations for breastfeeding and going back to work. Take the Breastfeeding class during the last three months of pregnancy; partners and other interested family members are encouraged to attend. Class size is limited; register early in the pregnancy.

Infant Care Class...$30 Fee
This one-session class is loaded with practical tips for new parents. Learn about newborn characteristics, baby care, crying, feeding, diapering, bathing, and what to expect during the first days at home. Parents have an opportunity to practice basic baby care as well as get questions answered. Take Infant Care class during the last three months of pregnancy; partners and other family members are encouraged to attend. Class size is limited; register early in the pregnancy.
