What makes Texas Children's Kangaroo Crew different?
It's more than transport; it's saving lives

The highest level of staff expertise is present on every transport.

  • Registered nurses (RN), with critical care registered nurse (CCRN) certification
  • Registered pediatric respiratory therapists (RRT)
  • Neonatal nurse practitioners (NNP)

If needed, a neonatologist or a pediatric critical care physician accompany transports. 

Our up-to-date fleet of safe, certified vehicles adheres to strict standards.

  • Three ground ambulances
  • One fixed-wing air ambulance
State-of-the art equipment transforms each ambulance into a traveling intensive care unit for premature infants and critically ill children.
Each interior is outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment designed to meet the unique health care needs of newborns and children. They carry everything needed to operate as mobile intensive care units, including specialized portable equipment.

 

 

Kangaroo Crew is the only pediatric intensive care transport service that brings newborn babies to Texas Children's Hospital, one of the top pediatric hospitals in the nation.

Healing begins when the phone rings.
When the Kangaroo Crew 24/7 command center is contacted by a referring physician, it springs into action, consulting immediately with the appropriate pediatric subspecialists and formulating a plan of care for the patient. This immediate response allows treatment to begin the moment the team picks up the patient.

The referring physician is part of the treatment team.
Texas Children's Hospital staff takes seriously the commitment to make referring physicians part of the treatment team.

Family-centered care is a part of everything we do.
At Texas Children's we believe that each patient’s family is a key part of the care team. Parents are involved in their child’s treatment from the beginning.

Because we know it can be difficult when your child is hospitalized, we offer the following services to support families:

  • Lactation Program and Mother's Own Milk Bank
  • Ronald McDonald House on site
