Texas Children’s Gordon Emergency Center

Texas Children's Hospital operates the largest pediatric emergency center in South Central Texas.

Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with full-time physician and nursing coverage, the emergency center utilizes 48 emergency beds and 19 observation beds. It offers state-of-the-art equipment including a diagnostic imaging picture archiving and communication system (PACS), computerized bedside registration, time-saving lab testing procedures and a centralized communications center.

The emergency center treats approximately 80,000 patients each year, and of those patients, more than 14,000 are admitted to the hospital for additional treatment. Since opening its doors in 1991, the center has treated more than 650,000 patients for a variety of medical emergencies such as accident trauma, asthmatic attacks and seasonal ailments like the flu.

Texas Children's emergency center also serves as a referral center for children who are victims of assault and other violent crimes.
