The time to get involved is NOW. You do not need to wait until you have received your appointment to be involved in the bariatric support group! Your child and family must demonstrate commitment to the program prior to surgery!

Support group attendance at least monthly is a requirement for all patients and their families. No cell phones! If you bring cell phones, please put them on vibrate. Distractions are inconsiderate for those coming to learn. Please be on time, we will close the doors at 5:45pm. If you think you’ll be late, give us a call.

Always wear comfortable clothing (workout clothes) and tennis shoes. Absolutely No flip flops or sandals. Bring a towel and swim clothes to each meeting in the event we go into the heated pool. If you are not comfortable wearing a swimsuit, shorts and a t-shirt are fine. Please do not wear cut off jean shorts or anything with metal.

Each meeting we will provide nutrition education from our registered dietitian and answer any questions regarding our program. After the education session we have an activity led by an exercise physiologist; you and your family must participate to the best of your ability.

Gastric bypass surgery is merely a tool to help with weight loss. Children undergoing major
surgery will need the support of their family. If anyone else in the family is overweight we
expect that now is the time to begin making changes for your benefit and your child’s. Lifestyle
changes including healthy eating and daily activity are essential to weight loss/maintenance
and therefore we expect everyone attending support group will participate.

Families going through similar challenges will surround you and this is why we find coming
together to discuss our needs is so beneficial. Above all, we expect that you’ll have fun!

See you there!
